MBE Subject Performance Tracker: Bar Exam

Track your progress by subject. Study smarter, not harder.

MBE Subject Performance Tracker

Track your strengths. Spot your weak spots. Target your growth with data, not guesswork.

How this calculator works

This calculator helps you estimate your scaled MBE score based on how you’re doing in each subject.

👉 You’ll enter:

  • Which MBE subjects you’ve practiced

  • How many questions you attempted in each subject

  • How many you got right

Once you’ve filled in all seven subjects, the tracker will:

  • Calculate your overall accuracy

  • Estimate your scaled MBE score (out of 200)

  • Give you personalized recommendations based on your score

If you’ve only practiced a few subjects, you’ll still see your subject-by-subject breakdown — but the full score estimate only appears when all seven are entered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the MBE score estimate?

The estimate is based on your total correct answers across all seven subjects. While it’s not a guaranteed prediction of your actual scaled MBE score, it gives you a helpful snapshot of your current accuracy and progress — especially when used consistently during bar prep.

For more on how the MBE is scored, check out this detailed explanation from the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE).

Yes — the tool will still show you your performance by subject. However, the estimated scaled score and recommendations will only appear if all seven subjects are entered

Use it after completing practice sets to:

  • Monitor which subjects need more review

  • Set score goals and track your progress

  • Adjust your study plan based on real-time data

We recommend combining it with a timed practice test every 2–3 weeks to spot trends and boost your confidence.

A “good” MBE score depends entirely on the jurisdiction where you’re taking the bar exam. Most states set their passing MBE score between 130 and 140, but a few require higher scores to pass.

Here’s a quick sample of required MBE passing scores by state:

  • 130: Alabama, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah

  • 133: Connecticut, D.C., Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Virginia Islands

  • 135: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming

  • 136: Florida

  • 138: Nevada

  • 139: California

📍 Note: Some scores reflect total passing scores, not MBE-only cutoffs. And jurisdictions like Louisiana and Puerto Rico don’t use the MBE at all.
